Ebertfest Project Coordinator discusses final lineup, special guests, and behind-the-scenes changes

Molly Cornyn is no stranger to the Roger Ebert Film Festival (Ebertfest) experience, having coordinated the behind-the-scenes logistics for the past three years. She handles all of the details, from organizing transportation and housing for the special guests, to ensuring the films arrive and everything behind-the-scenes is functioning. “It’s all about making the filmmakers, actors, and their guests feel welcome from the moment they arrive in Champaign. My job is also to ensure the audience has the amazing festival experience they deserve.”

Champaign man pleads guilty to disseminating child pornography

A Champaign man who volunteered for youth organizations and performed as a DJ has pleaded guilty to selling child pornography. With his plea, eight other counts of child-pornography charges against Dante J. Scott, 29, were dismissed. As part of the plea agreement, he will serve 20 years in prison, instead of the standard maximum of 30 years.

2025 Mayoral Recognition Program enrollment opens up

The program is open to any UHS Student who commits to a minimum of 30 hours of volunteer service during the academic year. Students with 30 hours of service will receive a Certificate of Service. Students with 50, 75 or 100 hours of service will also earn bronze, silver or gold status and receive an additional recognition item. All participants will be recognized at the Mayoral Service Recognition Ceremony on April 16, 2025.

Multiple local restaurants receive Yellow Food Safety Alerts following inspections

On March 27, Tenkyu in Champaign received a yellow alert after a health inspector found multiple violations, including cross-contamination of raw seafood and meats stored improperly. This marks the third consecutive inspection with similar violations. Tenkyu has been given a follow-up inspection in the coming days.

Urbana Spring Leaf Collection starts April 7

This occurs for one week only. Only leaves and non-woody plant materials accepted. No brush, branches, sod, or other materials are allowed. Leaves must be placed in paper lawn and garden bags. Bagged leaves are required to be set curbside the night before your collection day. Questions may be directed to U-Cycle at 217-384-2302.
