Fire crews responded promptly Monday morning to reports of a small fire at a two-story residence after a passerby noticed smoke coming from the side of the home.
In recognition of World Menstrual Hygiene Day on May 28, the Champaign-Urbana Public Health District (CUPHD) is launching its latest period product drive to support individuals facing period poverty in Champaign County. Beginning May 5, 2025, the campaign will collect essential menstrual hygiene products for distribution to those in need.

History was made on Saturday, May 3, as DeShawn Williams was sworn in as the 50th mayor of Urbana—and the city’s first Black mayor—in an uplifting ceremony at Lincoln Square Mall. The milestone event drew hundreds of residents and community leaders who gathered to witness a defining moment in Urbana’s history.

Williams, a community college administrator and radio host from Danville, often interviewed Leslie Ingold, RN, a regional stroke navigator at OSF, for her show. In March 2024, that information turned out to be life-saving.
Parkland College’s Horticulture staff and students are gearing up for their annual spring plant sale, set to take place May 5–9 in the campus greenhouse. The sale will run daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
