A report from the Urbana Police Department has provided further insight into a tragic home invasion over the weekend that left two people dead, including 7-year-old Darnell “DJ” Wicks. One of the key revelations from the report is that 43-year-old Melvin Braxton fatally shot Wicks during a domestic incident on Saturday night in the 900 block of Lanore Drive.
The Experience Champaign-Urbana Foundation is inviting the public to explore the region’s rich history with its inaugural Champaign County African American Heritage Trail bus tour, scheduled for Monday, February 17, from 10 a.m. to noon.
