At approximately 05:41 a.m. Monday morning, the Urbana Fire Department responded to a fire alarm activation at 1202 E. Harding Dr., a six-story building. Upon arrival, Engine 252 reported heavy smoke billowing from the fifth floor and declared the situation a working fire. A second alarm was promptly called for additional resources, with C220 arriving on scene shortly after.
Efrem Winters, a legend in Illinois basketball during the 1980s, has passed away at the age of 61 following a prolonged battle with illness. Winters, known for his slam dunks and dominant presence in the post, played a pivotal role in restoring Illinois to national prominence under Coach Lou Henson.
