PIATT COUNTY, IL (Chambana Today) – On Sunday, April 13, at approximately 3:21 p.m., the Piatt County Sheriff’s Office responded to a serious two-vehicle crash at the intersection of 2500 North Road and 800 East Road. The accident resulted in one fatality and multiple injuries.
According to the initial investigation, Unit 1, driven by 44-year-old Jason M. Sharp of Farmer City, was traveling westbound on 2500 North Road when he allegedly disobeyed a yield sign at the intersection with 800 East Road. Unit 2, driven by 50-year-old Joshua W. Beck of Mansfield, was traveling northbound on 800 East Road when Sharp’s vehicle struck the passenger side of Beck’s vehicle, causing it to roll over. Joshua Beck was pronounced dead at the scene.
Sharp had three passengers in his vehicle: a 47-year-old female, a 35-year-old female, and a 35-year-old male. Sharp and two of the passengers were transported by ambulance to Carle Hospital in Urbana, while the third passenger was airlifted to the same facility. No updates on their conditions have been released at this time.
Sharp has been cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash and failure to obey a yield sign.
The incident remains under investigation by the Piatt County Sheriff’s Office, the Illinois State Police, and the Piatt County Coroner’s Office. Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 217-762-5761.
