CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) — IBEW Local 601 is taking aim at Unity Construction Management for its involvement in the Victoria Point 2.0 project, a venture set to take place with Masters Bros., Inc. The union claims that Masters Bros. is offering wages lower than the area’s standard rates for electrical workers, which violates the local union’s established pay scale and benefits.
The union members, who have long fought to maintain fair wages and working conditions, are rallying against what they call “substandard contractors” and the erosion of community standards. The union has placed posters and made calls for action, urging the public to support businesses that pay fair wages to workers.
The protest is part of the union’s ongoing mission to ensure that wages reflect the hard work of local electrical workers and support the broader community’s economic health. Workers and families rely on these standards, and IBEW Local 601 believes that cutting wages ultimately harms everyone.
