URBANA, IL (Chambana Today) – The Champaign-Urbana Resistance Effort (CURE) is hosting its second march and rally on Saturday, May 10 at the Champaign County Courthouse.
CURE is a a local, grassroots group committed to traditional American values of fairness, equality and support for allies. The rally, called the March for Moms, is meant to call attention to attempts by Republicans to remove Medicaid and funding for medical research, to reduce resources to education including the critical Head Start program, to eliminate funding for global peace and justice initiatives and for assaults on the environment.
The rally and march lasts one hour and coincides with Mother’s Day. Families are encouraged to march peacefully with or in honor of their mothers. The event starts at 10:00 a.m. on the North side of the courthouse at 101 E. Main St., Urbana. There will be several speakers, followed by a short march to Lincoln Square and the U.S. District courthouse. Participants are encouraged to bring their signs, voices, and enthusiasm.
An earlier CURE rally, on Saturday, March 29, attracted several hundred participants, despite a steady rain.
