CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – The University of Illinois System is welcoming a prominent civic leader, physician, and alumnus to its Board of Trustees. Governor JB Pritzker on Monday appointed Dr. Bryan S. Traubert to serve as a voting trustee through January 2031, pending confirmation by the Illinois Senate.

Traubert, a graduate of the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Chicago, practiced ophthalmology for more than 30 years in Chicago and has become a highly respected voice in civic and philanthropic circles. He currently chairs both the Pritzker Traubert Foundation — which he co-founded with his wife, former U.S. Commerce Secretary Penny Pritzker — and the Executive Committee of the Chicago Community Trust.

His addition brings deep medical and philanthropic expertise to the 13-member board, which governs the University of Illinois System’s three campuses in Urbana-Champaign, Chicago, and Springfield.

In addition to his medical training, Traubert holds a bachelor’s degree from The Citadel and has completed fellowships at the University of Chicago in clinical medical ethics and at Stanford’s Distinguished Careers Institute. He also brings a strong philanthropic vision to the board. Through the Pritzker Traubert Foundation, Traubert has championed efforts to expand opportunity and equity in Chicago, aligning with the U of I System’s focus on accessibility, innovation, and community service.

Traubert fills the seat vacated by Patricia Brown Holmes. His appointment maintains the board’s political balance, with no more than five of the governor-appointed trustees allowed to be from the same political party.
