URBANA, IL (Chambana Today) – For 17 years, the chapel at Cunningham’s Spiritual Life Center has been more than just a space for worship—it has served as the heart of campus life. From graduation ceremonies and Christmas programs to prom nights, talent shows, career fairs, and even board meetings, the chapel is a place where milestones are celebrated, healing begins, and futures take shape.

But despite its vital role, there’s one lingering challenge: poor acoustics. High ceilings and hard surfaces create excessive echo, making it difficult to hear and connect—especially during large gatherings or intimate spiritual moments.

That’s why Cunningham is launching a fundraising effort to raise $25,000 to $45,000 to install acoustic tiles and improve sound clarity. The effort is part of their month-long Sensory Spaces, Hopeful Faces” campaign, aimed at creating environments that promote calm, connection, and comfort for vulnerable youth.

Even with high-end microphones and speakers, the sound bounces everywhere,” the team shared. “It’s frustrating during moments that should feel deeply personal.”

Generous supporters Lurinda and Larry Venezia have already stepped forward with a $10,000 lead gift, inspiring the Cunningham community to help close the gap. Board member Sybil summed it up best: “This helps the kids—but really, it helps everyone who steps into that space.”
