CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – Champaign Fire Chief Andy Quarnstrom announced Wednesday that he will retire from his position in July, marking the end of a nearly 28-year career with the Champaign Fire Department. Quarnstrom’s final day with the department will be July 14.

Quarnstrom joined the Champaign Fire Department in 1997 and has served as Fire Chief since February 2024. In a statement, he expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve the community and work alongside the department’s dedicated personnel.

“It has been an honor to serve the residents of this wonderful community for the last 28 years,” Quarnstrom said. “I am grateful to have been given the opportunity to work alongside and lead the dedicated professionals who put their lives on the line in service to our community.”

He also extended thanks to city leaders, fire department members, and his family for their support throughout his career.
