TOLONO, IL (Chambana Today) – Unity High School senior Molly Baxley has been named one of eight recipients of the 2025 Conservation Achievement Scholarship by the Illinois Conservation Foundation (ICF), a statewide honor recognizing exceptional high school students for their dedication to protecting Illinois’ natural resources.
Baxley, an active member of FFA and a longtime counselor at Camp Ondessonk, earned the $2,000 scholarship for her hands-on work in environmental stewardship and her commitment to teaching others how to care for the outdoors. She plans to study forestry and ultimately serve as a conservation police officer.
“Molly exemplifies the leadership and passion we need in the next generation of conservationists,” said Natalie Phelps Finnie, director of the Illinois Department of Natural Resources and ICF board chair. “Her dedication to promoting sustainable practices and outdoor ethics makes her an outstanding role model.”
At Camp Ondessonk, Baxley teaches Leave No Trace principles, leads trail maintenance crews, and models sustainable land use for campers. Back home in Tolono, she promotes conservation through agricultural education and community service projects focused on land and water protection.
“Molly has a deep respect for nature that she shares with everyone around her,” said one of her mentors. “She’s not just learning about conservation—she’s living it, and she inspires others to do the same.”
The Conservation Achievement Scholarship is awarded annually to Illinois high school seniors who demonstrate exceptional voluntary service in natural resource protection. This year’s recipients represent communities across the state, but Baxley’s blend of leadership, action, and vision set her apart.
