CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – A long-awaited step toward modernizing fire protection services in Champaign took a leap forward Tuesday night as the City Council unanimously approved two key resolutions for the construction of a new Fire Station No. 3.

The board consolidated and passed two council bills in a 9-0 vote. The first authorizes City Manager Dorothy David to enter into an agreement with Dewberry Architects Inc. for design services. The second affirms the city’s intent to reimburse certain project expenditures through future funding.

“This is a long time coming for Fire Station No. 3,” said council member Davion Williams, voicing support for the long-anticipated upgrade.

The decision allows the Champaign Fire Department to officially begin working with Dewberry Architects on designing the new station — a move officials say will enhance emergency response and better serve the growing needs of the community.
