MONTICELLO, Ill. (Chambana Today) — Not all plants are good plants. Are you able to tell the difference between invasive, aggressive, or nuisance plant species? The U of I Extension DeWitt is hosting a free growing community program next month in collaboration with the Piatt Master Gardeners to help you know why understanding the difference matters.

The “Know Your Garden: Identifying Invasive, Aggressive, and Nuisance Plants” program will be held at noon on November 18 at the Piatt County Extension office, located at 210 South Market Street in Monticello. Participants will learn key tips for the best gardening practices, record keeping, plant swaps, composing, and soils in the garden.

“We want our community gardeners to understand how important it is to know what is growing in their garden,” says Horticulture program coordinator Beth Miglin. “It’s important to understand the difference between invasive, aggressive, and nuisance tree, shrub, and plant species because they can have negative impacts on gardens.”

There is no fee to attend this program, but advance registration is requested by Nov. 17 at go.illinois.edu/Growing.
