CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) — The historic Virginia Theatre will screen Mel Brooks’s comedy classic Young Frankenstein on Sunday, June 28, at 2 p.m. as part of the News-Gazette Film Series, celebrating the legendary filmmaker’s 100th birthday.

The 1974 film stars Gene Wilder as Dr. Frederick Frankenstein, a respected medical lecturer who inherits his infamous grandfather’s Transylvania estate and soon finds himself recreating the family’s monstrous experiments alongside servants Igor, Inga, and the fearsome Frau Blücher. The PG-rated film runs 106 minutes.

Brooks, who is turning 100 this year, remains active in the entertainment industry. He has credited laughter as the key to his longevity.
