CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – The Champaign Police Department (CPD) has recently been accredited as a Tier II Law Enforcement Agency by the Illinois Law Enforcement Accreditation Program (ILEAP).
Being accredited as a Tier II Law Enforcement Agency means that the CPD has followed 181 professional standards and that they have followed ILEAP’s highest level of professionalism. This accreditation is proof that the CPD’s methods in providing services and assistance to our community is valid and also holds the department much more accountable for its actions. They have the additional benefits of limiting liability and risk exposure.
“Peer review and accreditation ensure that Champaign Police operate with care and professionalism for the community we serve,” said Police Chief Timothy T. Tyler.
The accreditation can be attributed to the CPD’s Administration Division which concluded with an on-site assessment in April 2024. The CPD is one of 64 agencies to receive accreditation in comparison to over 1,200 agencies spread throughout the state. ILEAP representatives presented the CPD their accreditation plaque on September 3 at the Champaign City Council meeting.
