CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – According to data from the Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES) and the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the Champaign-Urbana (CU) area is seeing significant job growth and a decrease in unemployment.
According to an Illinois e-News release, the unemployment rate around the CU has decreased to 4.8% in August 2024, down from 5.1% in August 2023. Non-farm jobs in the CU MSA also increased by 5,400 over the year, with a 4.7% growth rate. This increase in jobs and decrease in unemployment marks significant economic growth and stability reflected across several other areas in Illinois.
“IDES and its essential workforce partners are working throughout the state to offer critical employment services to enthusiastic jobseekers,” said Deputy Governor Andy Manar.
Some sector specific job increases are listed below:
- Government: +4,100 jobs
- Leisure-Hospitality: +700 jobs
- Mining-Construction: +300 jobs
- Private Education-Health Services: +200 jobs
- Manufacturing: +200 jobs
- Retail Trade: +200 jobs
- Other Services: +100 jobs
- Wholesale Trade: +100 jobs
- Financial Activities: +100 jobs
