CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – Parkland College is hosting its first Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence, Dr. Youssoupha Mane.
Dr. Mane brings a unique West African perspective to Parkland’s many programs. He is an esteemed educator and researcher from Assane Seck University in Ziguinchor, specializes in African Studies and traditional West African art. At Parkland, he will be teaching courses in History and African Studies and is set to teach throughout the 2024-2025 academic year.
“I am grateful to be a Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence at Parkland College, which has deepened my empathy for international students and enhanced my appreciation for the value of diversity,” said Dr. Mane.
Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence Program aims to internationalize U.S. colleges and universities by bringing in scholars from abroad. It has existed since 1946 and has facilitated over 400,000 individuals in study, teaching, and research abroad. Dr. Mane is one of 43 Fulbright Scholars-in-Residence and among 1,000 individuals participating in the Fulbright Visiting Scholar program. The program has alumni including 62 Nobel Laureates and 89 Pulitzer Prize winners.
“Parkland provides an environment that allows me to explore a new educational system and engage with new learners, which is an invaluable opportunity for my personal growth,” said Mane.
