DANVILLE, IL (Chambana Today) – The Danville Auxillary Police (DAP) is currently seeking public servants to add to their staffing.

The Auxiliary Police are responsible for serving in special events like parades, the fall festival, and many others. Participating in the Auxiliary Police allows individuals to work with and contribute to the Danville community. To become a part of the Auxiliary Police, participants must attend a 12-week training course that teaches use of force, law, defensive tactics, traffic control procedures, and much more.

Training starts on January 28, 2025 and is held every Tuesday night from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The position is voluntary and unpaid. There are certain requirements to joining the Auxiliary Police listed below:

  • Must be 21 years of age
  • Must possess a valid FOID card
  • Must be able to attend the 12-week training course, 40-hour mandatory firearms course, and monthly meetings
  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • Must pass a thorough background check
  • Must be able to meet basic physical requirements
  • Must live within 45 miles of Danville city limits.
