SAVOY, IL – Gaddis McAfee, 48, of Savoy, was pronounced dead following a single-vehicle crash late Friday night. At approximately 10:42 p.m., Champaign County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the 400 block of Wesley Avenue, where a northbound passenger car driven by McAfee left the roadway and struck a tree at high speed.
Emergency responders from the Savoy Fire Department and Sheriff’s Office arrived at the scene to provide assistance. McAfee, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle and not wearing a seatbelt, was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
A preliminary investigation suggests that impairment by alcohol and/or drugs may have been a factor in the crash. The investigation remains ongoing, with the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office and the Coroner’s Office working together to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
