CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – The American Red Cross is urging donors to give blood or platelets after thousands of donations went uncollected in January.

Red Cross encourages people of all blood types, especially those with type O negative to allow hospitals to ensure critical care. In January, more than 15,000 blood and platelet donations were canceled due to severe winter weather and wildfires. With February continuing, potential for severe weather and illnesses have the potential to cancel scheduled donation appointments.

With your help, Red Cross has the opportunity to save patient lives and give blood and platelets to those in need. To book a time to give blood or platelets, use the Red Cross Blood Donor App, visit RedCrossBlood.org or call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767). As a thank you, individuals who give blood January 27 to February 28 will receive a $15 e-gift card to a merchant of choice. See RedCrossBlood.org/Flurry for details.
