CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – The Centennial High School Archery Team is creating a “field of flags” on the high school’s lawn to commemorate Veteran’s Day.

On November 10 beginning at 2:00 p.m. the team will create the sea of flags coupled with a banner in honor of veterans and in preparation of Veteran’s Day on Monday, November 11. The team will be accompanied by coaches, local military representatives, and veterans. The event will also include a brief message honoring veterans and the playing of the United States anthem.

The idea comes from the minds of Coaches Ryan and Heather Miller who came up with the idea as a team community service project. Multiple alumni on the Centennial Charger Archery team are current active-duty marines and one senior plans to join upon graduation.

“With so many local veterans from Champaign-Urbana and surrounding Central Illinois area, we wanted to teach our student-athletes the importance of thanking veterans for their service and sacrifice as well as appreciating what the U.S. flag represents. We thought this hands-on activity would engage our youth in a meaningful way,” said Coach Heather Miller.
