CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – Champaign County Sheriff is providing an update to a homicide that occurred on December 10, 2024.
On Tuesday, December 10, at approximately 8:54 p.m. Champaign County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a residence at the 1500 block of Dobbins Drive for a report of a shooting. Deputies pronounced Alvin Parker deceased at the scene upon arrival. Through investigations and numerous interviews, detectives identified Jamal Carter of Springfield, Illinois as a person of interest. On January 28, 2025, the Springfield Police Department conducted a traffic stop and found evidence linking Carter to the homicide.
Due to the investigation, the Champaign County State’s Attorney’s Office obtained an arrest warrant for Jamal Carter for the murder of Alvin Parker on February 26, 2025. A day, later, Champaign County Sheriff’s detectives located and arrested Carter in Springfield with the assistance of the United States Marshal Service Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force. He was then transported to the Champaign County Jail where he remains in custody pending judicial proceedings.
