CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – On April 24, Champaign Fire Department, Building Safety Department, and Equity & Engagement department enhanced fire safety within the community.

Their initiative involved a canvassing the surrounding neighborhoods of Spaulding park. The groundwork was laid in preparation for the upcoming Fire Alarm Blitz on Saturday, May 3. The Fire Alarm Blitz, sponsored by the Sheehan Family, is a vital community service designed to provide preventative fire safety measures to families in need.

Trained personnel will test smoke and carbon monoxide detectors within residents’ homes. Homes lacking these devices will be provided new detectors, free of charge. This initiative aims to significantly reduce the risk of fire-related injuries and fatalities by ensuring that vulnerable households have the necessary early warning systems in place.
