CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – The Champaign Police Department (CPD) regularly use community assistance and security camera footage to help solve crimes near homes and businesses. The City’s Security Camera Registration Program (CSCRP) is an easy way to assist them.

The CSCRP is an opportunity for local residents of Champaign County to voluntarily register security cameras, video doorbells, etc. for quick and easy CPD access. With the CSCRP, if a crime occurs nearby, the CPD can speedily contact nearby security camera owners for more information that can solve the case. Security camera footage is extremely important evidence that can can provide valuable information when it pertains to a crime.

Registration for the program is completely voluntary and individuals registered in the program will have the opportunity to decide later whether they would like to share the footage or not. CPD will never request direct access or control over any private cameras or surveillance systems.
