CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – Residents of the Champaign-Urbana community completed the nine-week Community Police Academy program.
The program was hosted by the University of Illinois Police Training Institute and offers a behind-the-scenes look at the many tools, training, and dedication it takes to become a police officer. The program is held once a year and consists of three-hour blocks of instruction done over nine weeks.
It is open to anyone with a sponsorship from a local police department and Illinois students, staff, and faculty are prioritized for registration. The Urbana Police Department would like to give a special thanks to Maria Payan and Jim Rylek, who were proudly sponsored by the Urbana Police Department.
