CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – A Chicago man is currently being held in custody after an investigation into a December 2025 homicide incident in Champaign.
The Champaign Police were dispatched at 7:50 p.m. on December 9, 2024 to the 2400 block of W. Springfield Avenue to a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers found 21-year-old Heaven Hope with several gunshot wounds that proved to be life threatening. The officers rushed to provide medical aid with the assistance of the Champaign Fire Department. Sadly, Ms. Hope passed away from her injuries at the hospital soon after.
The later investigation revealed that Hope was entering a business with a man when 24-year-old Carl Tribble Jr. of Chicago opened fire. She was shot multiple times with the man uninjured and Trible then fled the scene on foot. The incident was believed to have stemmed from an argument outside of the business. Tribble was then arrested on December 11, 2024 after a vehicle pursuit in sourther Illinois.
He is in custody in Missouri and is awaiting transport back to Champaign County on a First-Degree Murder charge. The investigation is still ongoing and the Champaign Police Department requests residents and businesses with surveillance cameras to contact them.
