URBANA, IL (Chambana Today) – Corporal Brandon Schreiber of Newton County, Indiana sadly passed away at the Carle Trauma Center in Urbana.

On the evening of September 1, the Newton County Sheriff’s Office was assisting the Iroquois County, Illinois Sheriff’s Office with an incident with details that have not been released to the public due to the Illinois State Police leading that investigation. As a result of this incident, Corporal Schreiber was shot by the suspect, taken to Iroquois Memorial Hospital, and then flown to Carle Trauma Center where he was listed as in critical condition.

“Our hearts are heavy today as we honor a man who has made the ultimate sacrifice in service to his community. We mourn his loss, grieve for his department and his family, and pay our respects,” said Police Chief Timothy T. Tyler.

The Newton County Sheriff’s Office was then informed on Tuesday, September 10 that Corporal Schreiber would not be able to survive his injuries. His passing was announced on the evening of Wednesday, September 11. A law enforcement procession memorial was announced to proceed at 10:15a.m., departing Carle Hospital with impacts to local traffic.
