URBANA, IL (Chambana Today) – Cunningham’s Children’s Home celebrates the success of Julien, who made his transition to Urbana High School.
Julien, a student who mentored younger students at Cunningham’s Gerber School, transitioned to Urbana High School. With uncertainty, he started with a single photography class. There were challenges and he would occasionally refute going to class, but he always went.
“There were times he didn’t even want to enter the building at all,” said Darcy, Cunningham’s Education Coordinator.
Despite his hesitation, he was supported thoroughly and found comfort in the classroom, allowing his true self to shine. In a photography course, Julien found his eye for photography. In December, every area high school art teacher could send ten student artworks to the University of Illinois School of Art and Design’s FAA High School Art Exhibition.
The pieces would be displayed at the Link Gallery on the University of Illinois campus. Julien’s piece, “Apple,” was selected for display and served as an excellent achievement for Julien. Due to his success, Julien is now attending a second art course and Cunningham continues to foster his ability to learn and grow.
