DANVILLE, IL (Chambana Today) – The Danville Police Department (DPD) responded to reports on Buchanan St. of gunshots being fired and quickly rushed to the scene. Investigations led to the department finding a 17-year-old juvenile who suddenly resisted arrest.
On Wednesday, August 21 at 8:47pm, the DPD responded to shots fired on the 300 block of Buchanan St. with a vehicle and a residence being struck in the gunfire. Luckily, nobody was hurt, but reports in the area led to information of a black Ford Fusion in the area and in the incident. The DPD proceeded to search for a vehicle with the description, leading them to the area of South and Park Street. The officers then located the black Ford Fusion at 9:18pm there only a couple blocks away from the shooting.
They then attempted to pull the vehicle over, but the vehicle refused and sped away. A pursuit was then initiated. A gun was hurriedly thrown out of the vehicle, which was picked up and filed as evidence. The Ford Fusion wildly sped as far as the 900 block of Fowler Street, where it suddenly struck a tree and pursuit came to an end. Upon approaching the vehicle, the officers identified the driver as a 17-year-old boy with a 24-year-old man also located in the vehicle. The man was later released from the scene. The juvenile has been charged with aggravated UUW, aggravated fleeing and eluding, and obstructing or resisting arrest.
The investigation into this incident is ongoing and no more information is released at this time. Anyone with information can call the DPD at (217) 431-2250 or Vermilion County Crime Stoppers at (217) 446-TIPS.
