URBANA, IL (Chambana Today) – As the Fall season begins, the Eastern Illinois Foodbank (EIF) urges the community to donate its time to its many volunteer opportunities.
The EIF is dedicated to alleviating hunger in Eastern Illinois, serving as the primary resource for food pantries, soup kitchens, homeless shelters, and other programs. In the 2024, they served 1.6 million people and distributed 11.1 million meals. They also contributed food to over 170 member agencies and programs through an 18-county service program. Their recent Operation Orange had more than 43,200 pounds of food repacked for distribution across the community.
The EIF is currently looking for volunteers who can sort produce, repackage food, and other warehouse duties. On top of this, they are also looking for people who can distribute food at Foodmobiles and people who can do data entry. Their community repack is coming up on Tuesday, October 8 and there are open volunteer hours on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
