URBANA, IL (Chambana Today) – The City of Urbana Fire Department (UFD) recognized members involved in a cardiac arrest save.

On July 18 at 4:45 a.m., Engine 251 (E251) was dispatched to a lift assist and rushed to the scene only to find a locked door and no easy access inside. After looking around and trying to prevent damage to the home, E251 found an open window and entered to unlock the door at the front. There they found a man lying on the floor. They proceeded to help him up, but while doing so, they say that the man went unresponsive and into cardiac arrest.

E251 quickly administered CPR and deployed their Lucas Device, a device that assists in administering chest compressions for CPR. Arrow Ambulance Medic 225 (M225) then arrived on the scene and assisted E251 to save the man’s life. They were both able to return sustained rhythm to his heart allowing blood to flow throughout the body. The City of Urbana shares that it would like to recognize partnership involved in saving this man’s life.

“The new joint effort between Arrow and UFD has made a positive impact on our community!” said UFD in a Facebook post.
