CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – Champaign Police Chief Timothy T. Tyler recently announced the appointment of Gregory Manzana as Deputy Chief of Police.
Manzana has been appointed as Deputy Chief of Operations, overseeing the department’s Uniform Patrol Division and specialized units including the Crisis Intervention Team, SWAT, Field Training, Explosive Ordinance Disposal, and K-9 Units. This Patrol Division is the first responder to every call 24/7 and handles more than 50,000 calls each year.
“The Champaign Police Department has a history of leadership in our region and across our profession,” said Chief Tyler. “Today, I am proud to continue that legacy through the promotion of an exceptional leader by promoting Gregory Manzana to the role of Deputy Chief of Police.”
The Division has 75 officers, 14 Sergeants, four Lieutenants, and one K-9 officer. Manzana has been serving the Champaign Police Department since 2002 and was previously a Lieutenant, Sergeant, and Patrol Officer. He was also on the SWAT Team, the Field Training Unit, the High-Tech Crime Unit, and in the Champaign Police Honor Guard.
His appointment begins on January 13, 2025.
