Illinois Department of Transportation announces construction on I-72/57

CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) recently announced construction on Interstate-72/57 on Monday, September 9.

This construction will focus on building crossover pavement, a temporary roadway meant to divert traffic from one side of the road to another. This is in preparation for the upcoming I-72 bridge reconstruction over I-57 which will begin in 2025 and is expected to end in fall of 2026. Motorists should expect delays and should allot extra time when going through this area. IDOT urges drivers to use alternative routes when possible, refrain from distracted driving, and be aware of workers and equipment when at the wheel.
