URBANA, IL (Chambana Today) – The METCAD 9-1-1 Center recently became the 148th Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) in the United States and the 2nd in Illinois to implement the Automated Secure Alarm Protocol (ASAP to PSAP).

According to METCAD in a press release, “ASAP to PSAP creates a direct connection between alarm monitoring companies and Champaign County’s 9-1-1 telecommunicators.” Before, alarm companies would have to manually contact the dispatch center in the case of an emergency. With ASAP to PSAP, alarm companies are able to directly transmit alarm details to METCAD’s dispatch software, allowing emergency services to be contacted in mere seconds.

“By sending the alarm signal over ASAP, information like the customer’s name, address, alarm type, and other details can be instantly transmitted without the need for a telephone call. That translates to valuable seconds being shaved off the time it takes to get first responders dispatched,” said METCAD 9-1-1 Deputy Director Jeff Wooten.

METCAD 9-1-1 processes about 5,000 calls annually and it is estimated that 80% of these calls will be processed through ASAP to PSAP. This move is a major step forward in the efficiency of emergency services and response times.
