CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – Parkland College’s spring concert season continues in May with three performances.
The Parkland College Concert Band will perform “May the Fourth Be with You” on Sunday, May 4 at 3:00 p.m at the Lincoln Square Mall. This includes “Four Scottish Dances” by Malcolm Arnold, “Folk Suite” by William Grant Still, “First Suite in Eb” by Gustav Holst, and “The Empire Strikes Back” by John Williams and transcribed by Jack Bullock.
The Parkland Choir will perform on Wednesday, May 7 at 7:00 p.m. on Parkland’s Second Stage. They will be performing “Pie Jesu” from “Requiem” by Gabriel Fauré, “Agony” from the musical “Into the Woods” by Stephen Sondheim, “Su, su, su pastorelli vezzosi, SV 166” with lyrics by anon and music by Claudio Monteverdi, and “Rise” from the Justice Choir Songbook with lyrics and music by Arianne Abela.
They will also be performing “Wild Uncharted Waters” from “A Little Mermaid” (2023) with lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda and music by Alan Menken, “Hey, Little Songbird” from the musical “Hadestown” by Anaïs Mitchell, “Easy as Life” from the musical “Aida” with lyrics by Tim Rice and music by Elton John, and “One Moment In Time” by Albert Hammond and John Bettis.
The Parkland Orchestra will be performing on Sunday, May 11 at 3:00 p.m. at Centennial High School’s Aldridge Auditorium. They will perform “The First Day of Spring” by Leroy Anderson, “Oboe Concertino, Op. 110” by Johann Wenzel Kalliwoda, “Variations on a Shaker Melody” by Aaron Copland, “Russian Easter Overture” by Nikolay Rimsky-Korsakov and arranged by Sandra Dackow, “(Up)Lifted” by Brian Balmages, and music from “West Side Story” by Leonard Bernstein with lyrics by Stephen Sondheim.
