CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – American Red Cross has been working hard responding to house fires in Penfield, Pekin, Topeka, Peoria, and Champaign.
Red Cross volunteers provided quick and immediate assistance to 11 people that were affected by these fires, offering essential items, health and mental health services, and one-on-one support to help them. The help from the volunteers and the Red Cross has made a great positive impact on peoples’ lives and will continue to carry on. However, the need for disaster volunteers is pressing with the rising frequency of extreme disasters. The Red Cross requests volunteers able to travel to support emergency shelters for disaster relief.
Volunteers who are able must complete necessary training and must be able to commit to a two-week deployment. Individuals with supervision, management, or organization skills, a strong desire to help others, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment are preferred even without previous experience in disaster relief. People may also donate financially at redcross.org and give blood that can be provided to donation centers that have been disrupted in the Southeast.
