PEORIA, IL (Chambana Today) – The Salvation Army announced two lead gifts to support the renovation of its Peoria campus.
This will be one of the largest projects in Illinois and aims to assist thousands in need. The campaign emphasizes the power of collaboration among individuals, elected officials, corporate partners, and government agencies. It seeks to “Do the Most Good” across North and Central Illinois. During the renovation unveiling, Peoria philanthropists, Don Fites and Royal Coulter, kicked off Phase 1, which entails an $18 million project, followed by Phase 2, entailing $12 million.
Don Fites, former CEO of Caterpillar, and his family have pledged $4 million towards the renovation. The Sylvia Fites Family Services Center has long served the Peoria community, and this gift will continue that legacy. Royal and Kathy Coulter have also pledged $5 million towards the renovation. Their Shared Blessings fund has supported many charitable causes in Peoria.
The contributions support the construction of a two-story shelter, expanding the family services center, and revitalizing the downtown campus’s external areas. Phase 1 is predicted to begin in the summer of 2025.
