TOLONO, IL (Chambana Today) – The Champaign County Sheriff’s deputies responded this morning to car vs. train incident.

On Friday, September 20 at around 7:30a.m. Champaign County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to an incident in Tolono regarding a car and a train collision. The car was a white 2014 Dodge Challenger and was driven by a 40-year-old female from Philo. The incident occurred when the driver was stopped Westbound behind several vehicles waiting for a stop sign on 900 North at US Route 45.

While waiting, the railroad warning lights were activated and the driver believed she wasn’t on the tracks.The train then quickly approached and struck the rear end of the vehicle.  The driver was transported to the hospital with no obvious injuries and was issued two traffic citations for Stopping, Standing, or Parking where Prohibited and for expired registration.
