CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – The Urbana and Champaign Sanitary District (UCSD) is hosting an event to kick off upgrades to the wastewater treatment facilities.

These upgrades will protect the public’s health and local environment along with utilizing reliable, affordable, and renewable energy for the wastewater treatment plant’s operations. The event will feature addresses from UCSD Board President Jennifer Putman and others involved in the upgrades, a ceremonial groundbreaking, and a short tour of the Southwest Treatment Plant. The event takes place on Wednesday, March 19 at 1:00 p.m.

It will be located at UCSD’s Southwest Plant near the Station A Preliminary Treatment Building. UCSD, along with its partners, will serve improvements that will allow the plant to source more than 70% of its power from renewable sources reducing energy costs and protecting the environment.
