DECATUR, IL (Chambana Today) – University of Illinois Extension is celebrating the dedication of 4-H volunteers during National Volunteer Week.
The 4-H program aims for a single, supportive adult mentor to help a youth thrive. DeWitt, Macon, and Piatt 4-H recognize the outstanding contributions of these 4-H volunteers during National Volunteer Week, from April 20 to April 26. These volunteers lead clubs and organize events to help the youth reach their full potential.
Maroa Livestock 4-H club volunteer Diane Daggett has been involved since the 1980s since her daughters were members. She has most recently been leading her grandchildren’s club.
“Giving kids an opportunity to do something on their own is why I love 4-H,” says Daggett.
“Our 4-H volunteers are what make our program go,” says 4-H Youth Development Educator Haley Jones. “Their dedication and commitment to our nearly 700 members throughout the year does not go unnoticed.”
79 adults have volunteered over 7700 hours in DeWitt, Macon, and Piatt counties in 2024.
“Whether they are facilitating club meetings, judging visual arts at the 4-H show, or assisting with beef weigh-in, our volunteers serve as a positive adult role model for our youth throughout their 4-H journey and beyond,” says Jones.
National Volunteer Week, organized by The Points of Light Foundation, hopes to “to inspire, equip, and mobilize people to take actions that change the world.”
