URBANA, IL (Chambana Today) – The University of Illinois Extension is inviting community members to be a composting leader with the University of Illinois Extension’s Compost Ambassador program.

This five-week training program will return, expanded to central Illinois. It features an enhanced hybrid curriculum that creates knowledgeable home and community composters and provide community education. The virtual sessions run on Wednesdays from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., starting on April 2.

“Composting is an easy way to make a positive environmental impact at your home, says Extension Educator Doug Gucker. “Through this program, you will learn the science of composting and become an advocate for sustainable practices in your community.”

Participants will explore composting fundamentals, home systems, scientific principles, quality testing, and community engagement through interactive online sessions and hands-on activities. The training will be located in demonstration workshops located at Prairie State College,University of Illinois Student Farm, and University Illinois Extension’s Lake County Office.

Partcipants will build compost piles, explore different systems, and connect with fellow composting enthusiasts. Lunch will be provided.
