URBANA, IL (Chambana Today) –  The University of Illinois Police recently arrested two individuals for the involvement in car theft of two vehicles.

On Wednesday, January 16, officers responded to reports at Talbot Laboratory, 104 S. Wright St., Urbana about a burglary in progress. The officers saw two people attempting to flee, who were later identified as 37-year-old Michelle Burns and 46-year-old Joel Ford. Burns complied with the officers to stop, but Ford continued to flee the scene. Officers found Burns in possession of several items from the burglarized vehicles and additional officers searched for Ford.

He was found in the 200 block of East Clark Street, Champaign and was found with several items taken from both the vehicles, along with items that did not belong to either. A Public Safety telecommunicator confirmed Burns and Ford’s involvement using security footage of the burglaries. Another employee found security footage of Burns and Ford exiting a parking garage in the 600 block of East Stoughton Street before they were found by the police.

Another officer traveled to 610 E. Stoughton Street to find two discarded boxes that were determined to be the other items in Ford’s possession, which were stolen as well. Burns and Ford now remain in the Champaign County Jail as of Thursday morning.
