URBANA, IL (Chambana Today) – The City of Urbana Police Department (UPD) is partnering with Strides Shelter and other organizations to collect new t-shirts and new socks in various sizes.

Strides shelter is an emergency shelter and resource center for the homeless and provides help without the requirement of sobriety, abstinence, or a criminal background check. The Strides program encourages empowerment and allows individuals to define their goals for success. Lieutenant Zac Mikalik encourages the public to help Strides Shelter by bringing new socks and t-shirts to the UPD lobby designated donation box.

“Please help us help those experiencing housing insecurity in our area as we partner with Strides Shelter, a low-barrier emergency shelter resource center,” Mikalik said.

There will also be a box in the lobby for the Season of Giving Event for the HOYCE Center currently collecting new, unwrapped toys and gifts for kids between the ages of 3 months and 13 for the holidays. The collection boxes will be available daily in the UPD lobby from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.

“The Urbana Police Department truly cares about the people we serve, and we’re excited to help out this holiday season,” Mikalik added.
