CURE hosting its second march and rally at the Champaign County Courthouse

The rally and march lasts one hour and coincides with Mother’s Day. Families are encouraged to march peacefully with or in honor of their mothers. The event starts at 10:00 a.m. on the North side of the courthouse at 101 E. Main St., Urbana. There will be several speakers, followed by a short march to Lincoln Square and the U.S. District courthouse. Participants are encouraged to bring their signs, voices, and enthusiasm.

Parkland College presents three performances for the spring season

The Parkland Orchestra will be performing on Sunday, May 11 at 3:00 p.m. at Centennial High School’s Aldridge Auditorium. They will perform “The First Day of Spring” by Leroy Anderson, “Oboe Concertino, Op. 110” by Johann Wenzel Kalliwoda, “Variations on a Shaker Melody” by Aaron Copland, “Russian Easter Overture” by Nikolay Rimsky-Korsakov and arranged by Sandra Dackow, “(Up)Lifted” by Brian Balmages, and music from “West Side Story” by Leonard Bernstein with lyrics by Stephen Sondheim.

Dog joins Illinois Marathon, finishes with runners and spectators

Chex, a local dog, escaped his owner’s yard and joined the marathon course, running alongside participants and crossing the finish line at Memorial Stadium. Race organizers allowed Chex to continue, and after completing the course, volunteers ensured he was safely reunited with his owner.
