URBANA, IL (Chambana Today) – On Tuesday, February 11th, at 8:31 a.m., the Urbana Police Department responded to the 1300 block of Laurel Drive for a report of an injured individual. Upon arrival, officers located a 70-year-old Urbana man who had sustained apparent stab wounds. Despite life-saving efforts, the individual was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Illinois State Police crime scene services assisted Urbana detectives in processing the crime scene. During the investigation, Urbana Police developed leads and located Sharon Moore, a 45-year-old Urbana resident. Moore was arrested on outstanding warrants, obstruction of justice, and first-degree murder charges. She was subsequently transported to the Champaign County Correctional Center.
The Champaign County Coroner’s Office will conduct an autopsy to determine the official cause and manner of death. The identity of the victim is being withheld pending family notification.
This remains an ongoing investigation led by the Criminal Investigations Division. Officers continue to canvass the surrounding area for witnesses and video footage that may assist in the investigation.
