CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) — Free summer meals for children are now being offered at multiple Champaign Unit 4 school locations, providing breakfast and lunch to anyone 18 years old and younger throughout the summer.
The program began this week and is open to all children, regardless of whether they attend a Unit 4 school. Meals are available at six school sites across Champaign on varying schedules through July.
Participating locations include Carrie Busey Elementary School, Booker T. Washington Elementary School, International Prep Academy, Edison Middle School, Centennial High School, and Dr. Howard Elementary School. Meal service days and times vary by location.
School officials said the program is designed to ensure children continue to have access to nutritious meals while school is not in session. Breakfast and lunch must be consumed on site.
All meal sites will be closed June 19 in observance of the Juneteenth holiday.
Families can check with Champaign Unit 4 Schools for specific serving times and dates at each location. The summer meals program is available to all children in the community at no cost.
