URBANA, IL (Chambana Today) – A report from the Urbana Police Department has provided further insight into a tragic home invasion over the weekend that left two people dead, including 7-year-old Darnell “DJ” Wicks. One of the key revelations from the report is that 43-year-old Melvin Braxton fatally shot Wicks during a domestic incident on Saturday night in the 900 block of Lanore Drive.
According to the Urbana Police Department’s daily crime log, Braxton also suffered fatal gunshot wounds during the confrontation. He was discovered across the street from where the incident took place. Officers noted that the firearm found with Braxton had been reported stolen, though they did not specify who fired the shot that killed him.
The department has not yet released full details of the investigation but has scheduled a press conference for 9 a.m. on Friday to provide additional information.
