SPRINGFIELD, IL (CHAMBANA TODAY)- Following a threatening 911 call, the Illinois State Capitol in Springfield initiated evacuations, as confirmed by Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias on social media. Additionally, the state capitol complex experienced a lockdown on Sunday due to a bomb threat, as relayed by Giannoulias. State Police responded to the bomb threat, prompting a lockdown and subsequent sweep for explosives. Fortunately, the capitol was reopened before 2 p.m. once the threat was determined to be non-credible. Giannoulias assured the public of further updates as they become available. These incidents mark the third instance this year of serious threats to the state capitol, following similar events in early January and last month.
