CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – In a thrilling comeback, Illinois defeated No. 18 Purdue 88-80 Friday night at State Farm Center, marking the team’s 20th victory of the season. Despite trailing by 10 points midway through the second half and 79-75 with just 2:18 remaining, the Illini closed the game with a 13-1 run, highlighted by a clutch three-pointer from Kasparas Jakucionis to break a 79-all tie with 39 seconds left.

This victory is significant for Illinois, as it not only solidifies their 20-win season but also extends their streak of having 20 or more wins in each of the last six years. The Illini are now among the top four programs nationally, joining Houston, Gonzaga, and San Diego State in this accomplishment. This win also marked Illinois’ 81st victory in Big Ten play since the 2019-20 season, tying them with Purdue for the most Big Ten wins over the past six seasons.

Leading the charge for Illinois was Will Riley, who scored a team-high 22 points and added four assists. This marks his fourth 20-point game of the season, placing him in a tie with Dee Brown for the ninth-most 20-point performances in Illinois freshman history. Tre White contributed 20 points while shooting 7-9 from the field and grabbing a team-high nine rebounds. White also tied a career-high with three 3-pointers, continuing his hot streak from beyond the arc.

Kylan Boswell chipped in with 15 points and five assists, while Tomislav Ivisic contributed 14 points, six rebounds, and three assists.
