DANVILLE, IL (Chambana Today) – The Vermilion County Animal Shelter is urgently seeking assistance from the community after taking in over 100 cats and dogs in the last two weeks. With space completely filled, the shelter took to Facebook on Saturday to announce they are out of room for dogs and are calling for immediate help from potential adopters.

If you’ve been considering adopting a pet, the shelter is offering the perfect opportunity: from now until the end of the month, adoption fees have been reduced. You can adopt a pet the same day you submit an application. Adoption fees for adult dogs are now $50, puppies are $150, and all cats are $20. The shelter hopes these reduced fees will encourage more people to adopt and help create space for the influx of animals.

For those who are unable to adopt, there are still several ways you can assist. The shelter is in need of treats for training purposes, specifically soft jerky-type treats or small “training” treats that can be broken into pieces. These donations can be dropped off at the Vermilion County Animal Shelter.

Additionally, the shelter is hosting an Adult Prom Fundraiser to help raise money for the care of the animals. Tickets are available for $50 per individual or $75 per couple. Another way to help is by fostering a shelter animal. Even if you can’t commit to a long-term adoption, providing temporary care for a pet in need can make a world of difference.
